What I do
The Nature of Counselling
The counselling process will involve learning to understand yourself better, and will assist in clarifying problems, goals and objectives. The process will follow a specific model and also be eclectic in nature. You can rely on the emotional support offered during counselling sessions but you remain responsible for your own decisions, thoughts and behaviour at all times. I may offer suggestions to you, but not implicit advice which you are free to accept or reject. You can choose to stop the counselling at any time.
Counselling sessions may be emotionally and psychologically intimate. Although it is your choice to share personal information with me, being honest with yourself will help facilitate the counselling process. The counselling relationship is strictly professional in nature and no social contact can be made outside of the sessions now or in the future, and this includes social networking sites on the internet. You are welcome to join as a fan of Sex Matters on Facebook.
Personal Information
No information about you will be given to any other person or organisation without your written consent. Any information collected about you will be stored in a secure manner. I am the only person who will see your personal information and it will be destroyed 7 years after your last visit.
The only exceptions to this are in the event of my considering that your personal safety or the safety of anyone else is at risk, if there is any suspicion of child abuse or if my file notes or I, are subpoenaed by a court of law. If possible a breach of confidentiality will be discussed with you beforehand. I may also discuss matters of counselling process and cases with my supervisor in a non-identifying manner.
